It is too expensive and inefficient to come back and do it all over again.
Quality construction, done on time is the key to successful construction
projects and happy customers.
The true concept of quality is not vague or subjective. Judgment or opinion has
no part in the measuring of and determining of quality. Words such as ‘high
quality’ ‘smooth’ or even ‘satisfactory’ do more to confuse all those involved
than clarify what is desired. If the stated requirements are unclear or
otherwise inappropriate, they must officially be changed. The new, clear
requirements can then be met completely.
For example, if the Architect uses words like "flat" or "reasonable
promptness", it is not a quality specification and the requirements cannot be
"met" without significant interpretation and (and probable argument). Actual
performance cannot be properly measured or evaluated. These notations must be
changed to read “flat to within 1/8 inch in 10 feet in any direction, and
within ten working days.” In this way requirements become specific and
attainable, and relative performance can easily be measured.
“The measure of the highest quality is simply meeting or exceeding the stated
requirements, to do so the first time and to do so in every situation” –Andrew
M Civitello
On the jobsite, Quality Control inspections are part of Brackett Construction
field personnel’s daily planning and activities. However, Quality Control is
not just the Contractor’s exclusive domain. It requires participation from
everyone involved in the Construction process: Architects, the Customer,
Subcontractors, Job Site Laborers, Suppliers, Building Inspectors, as
well as the entire staff at Brackett Construction, Inc.
All members of the building TEAM have a responsibility to ensure that their
work meets mutually accepted standards and that the materials used are of a
quality that is equal to –or better- than the materials specified.
At Brackett Construction, Inc. –Quality Counts (In other words:”THIS IS HOW WE
MAKE OUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY”)
Brackett Construction, Inc. Wins Renovation of the Year Award
At Brackett Construction, Inc., we have just celebrated our 13th Anniversary
doing what we like to do best – building quality projects that are
aesthetically pleasing and serving the needs of commercial, restaurant and
residential owners. Each of these past 13 years has presented new obstacles and
challenges in the field of construction that we have successfully tackled and
grown with.
As many of you know, we recently received the Los Angeles Architectural Award
for a Commercial Low Rise building renovation (The Farmers Daughter Hotel),
presented by the Los Angeles Business Council. The mayor of Los Angeles also
presented us with a letter of congratulations and recognition. Needless to say,
we are very proud of this accomplishment, especially since this project came in
below budget.
The renovation of the Farmers Daughter Hotel presented itself with unique
challenges that had to be addressed on an almost daily basis while keeping the
hotel open for business and the guests suffering minimal discomfort.
This hotel, with its decorative gingham pattern (on the front of the building)
has literally become the talk of the town!
Now, let’s head downtown to the site of our recent major renovation of the
Cecil Hotel. The owners of this hotel hired Brackett Construction to give the
Cecil an external, storefront “facelift” in order to rejuvenate its sagging
appearance. Next time you go downtown be sure to see how the Cecil’s storefront
has been restored to its original grandeur.
As always, we are here to meet your construction needs and provide you with
top-notch quality. I would be happy to come out and meet personally with you
and offer a complimentary assessment on what your construction needs would
entail.
Please feel free to give my office a call to set up an appointment. I look
forward to hearing from you soon.

COMING THIS WINTER
On the eve of our anniversary we began a major renovation of a landmark
building in Old Town Pasadena – 88 W. Colorado Boulevard. As the original
builders of this site in 1996, we are happy to undertake this project that will
greatly enhance the area. We are working very closely with the City of Pasadena
and the Department of Public Works to ensure that the surrounding neighbors in
this very busy area are well taken care of during this process. The initial
steps of this project included the demolition of a 2,000 square foot structure
and the recycling of 80% of the materials that were removed in an effort to
make a contribution back to the environment. This project, upon completion will
be the new home of such establishments as the retail store Kenneth Cole and the
renowned restaurant The Melting Pot, as well as other existing tenants.
We are looking forward to this project completing in the beginning of 2006.
